Design trends for 2027: where design is going and what it means for business
Every year, dozens of new trends emerge around design.
New colors. New fonts. New styles. New ways of creating websites, brand identities and advertising materials.
Some of them disappear after a few months. Others stay and gradually become part of the way we work.
2027 will probably be an interesting year precisely because of this difference.
Artificial intelligence is already part of designers’ everyday lives and continues to change the creative process. At the same time, more and more visual content is starting to look the same. This creates an interesting paradox.
The easier it becomes to create design, the harder it becomes to create something that truly stands out.
That is why we expect 2027 to bring a little less interest in design for the sake of design itself and more attention to ideas, character, usefulness and the way design works for a specific business.
Here are some of the directions we believe will be among the most important in 2027.
1. More character and less template driven design
Over the past few years, we have seen an enormous amount of visual content that looks good but also looks very similar.
Smooth gradients, minimalist interfaces, standard illustrations and images generated with AI. All of these are easily accessible and can be created in a very short amount of time.
The problem is that when everyone uses the same visual approaches, they stop being distinctive.
That is why we expect more brands to look for their own character in 2027.
Bolder typographic choices. More textures. Illustrations with an individual style. Photography that looks real rather than perfectly generated. More details that are specific to the brand itself.
This does not mean minimalism will disappear.
Instead, we will likely see more meaningful minimalism, where every element has a specific role.
2. AI will be part of the process, but it will not be the process itself
There is probably no point in talking about design in 2027 without talking about AI. The question is no longer whether designers will use artificial intelligence. They already do. The more interesting question is how.
AI can help with research, idea generation, creating variations, image processing and many other tasks. This allows designers to experiment faster and spend more time on the concept and on solving the actual problem.
But there is an important difference between using AI as a tool and allowing AI to make all the design decisions.
In 2027, it will become increasingly easy to create something visually impressive.
It will become increasingly difficult to create something meaningful.
This is precisely where human judgment will become even more important.
A designer needs to understand the business, the audience and the context. They need to be able to judge what works and what simply looks interesting.
3. Typography will play an increasingly important role
Typography is once again becoming one of the main tools for creating character.
This is particularly visible in web design, where large headlines, strong contrast between sizes and carefully selected typography can create the overall atmosphere of a page with almost no need for additional graphics.
In 2027, we expect to see more brands using typography as a primary visual element. There is also a practical side to this. Good typography can be impressive while keeping a website fast, readable and easy to use.
That is exactly the important difference between a trend and good design.
4. Less decorative animation and more movement with a purpose
Animation is a great tool.
But only when it has something to do.
Over the past few years, many websites have used movement almost everywhere. Elements appearing on screen, parallax effects, constantly moving images and different interactive solutions. This can look impressive during the first visit.
But if movement slows down the website or makes it harder for users to find the information they need, it starts working against the design. That is why we expect to see quieter and more thoughtful use of motion design in 2027.
Animation will be there when it helps us understand the interface, directs attention or creates a feeling associated with the brand.
Not simply because we can add it.
5. Websites will need to work for both people and AI
This is one of the trends that we believe will have the greatest importance for businesses. Until recently, the main task of a website was to be understandable to visitors and well indexed by search engines.
Now another layer is being added. AI systems need to be able to understand what a company offers, who its service is intended for and what makes this business different.
This means that clear content, good structure and well organized information will become even more important.
A beautiful website is no longer enough.
- It needs to be understandable.
- It needs to answer real questions.
- It needs to clearly demonstrate the company’s expertise.
- And it needs to build trust both with the visitor and with the way the content is interpreted by AI systems.
6. Authenticity will become a competitive advantage
This may be one of the most interesting changes. AI makes creating a perfect image extremely easy. But precisely because of this, real photographs, genuine stories and a human touch can become more valuable. People want to know who is behind a business.
- How the product is created.
- Who the people in the team are.
- What the real work looks like.
- What the people behind the brand think.
In 2027, we expect more companies to use real content instead of relying entirely on perfectly polished visual materials.
This is particularly important for small and medium sized businesses.
- They should not look like just another company on the internet.
- They should look like themselves.
7. Design will become increasingly connected to business results
This is a trend that we believe is much more important than any specific visual style. Clients will increasingly stop asking only whether a website looks good.
- They will ask whether it works.
- Whether people can find the information they need.
- Whether it generates more enquiries.
- Whether the product stands out on the shelf.
- Whether the new visual identity helps the company position itself more effectively.
This also changes the role of the designer.
Design should not be separate from the business. It should be part of the solution.
8. Accessibility will become part of good design, not an addition
Good design should be comfortable and usable for as many people as possible.
This means sufficient contrast, good readability, clear navigation, a logical structure and interfaces that do not rely only on visual signals. In 2027, we expect accessibility to become an increasingly natural part of the process of creating digital products.
This does not mean designers will have to compromise on visual appeal.
Quite the opposite.
The best solutions will be those that combine a distinctive visual identity with an easy and enjoyable user experience.
9. Less visual noise
This is a trend that may sound paradoxical given all the conversations about bolder designs. But bold design does not mean cluttered design. We expect more brands to reduce visual noise and allow the most important elements to speak.
- Clearer hierarchy.
- Better contrast.
- Fewer unnecessary elements.
- More space.
- More focus on content.
This is particularly important for websites, where people need to be able to understand what the business is offering within seconds.
10. Physical design will become even more important
Interestingly, the more of our lives move into the digital environment, the more special the physical experience can become. Packaging, paper, embossing, materials, printing and details can give a brand a feeling that a digital screen can hardly reproduce.
This is one of the reasons we expect greater interest in high quality packaging design and more thoughtful use of printed materials.
When much of the content we see online can be created in seconds, the physical product can offer something very different.
A real experience.
What will not work as well in 2027?
Not every trend deserves to be followed. We believe some visual approaches will start to lose their value precisely because they will be used too often.
This includes excessive use of AI generated images without an original idea, decorative effects without a function, complex animations that slow down a website and visual solutions that look impressive but do not help the user.
We can already see signs of fatigue with repetitive AI content and designs that look as though they were created from the same template.
This does not mean these tools will disappear.
It means that the way we use them will become more important than the tools themselves.
What does all of this mean for business?
The biggest mistake would be to treat these predictions as a list of things you need to add to your brand.
- Not every business needs huge typography.
- Not every website needs to be interactive.
- Not every product needs bold packaging.
- And not every brand needs to use AI.
The right question is different.
What will help your business become more recognizable, more understandable and more useful to its customers?
That should be the starting point.
Design comes next.
Our prediction for 2027
If we had to summarize everything in one sentence, we would say this:
In 2027, good design will be less about trends and more about character, clarity and meaning.
AI will make creating visual content faster.
Technology will continue to change the way we use websites and digital products.
But this will not reduce the need for good design.
Quite the opposite.
When everyone can create something beautiful, the value will be in creating something right.
- Something with an idea.
- Something recognizable.
- Something that works for both people and the business.
And perhaps that will be the most important design trend of 2027.
To stop designing for the sake of design itself and start designing with a clear reason.
